Henry Cavill apologized to women for his controversial comments
Henry Cavill, The Man of Steel actor, was slammed after he made some allegedly controversial comments. These were made in an interview in the latest issue of the GQ Magazine. Eventually, Henry Cavill apologized to women he had offended. In the interview, the actor says that he feels hesitant to approach women in a flirtatious manner because he fears being called a “rapist or something”.
The actor said he thinks “stuff has to change” regarding the behaviour of some men. He added that “it’s important to also retain the good things, which were a quality of the past, and get rid of the bad things”.
Henry will soon be seen in Mission: Impossible – Fallout. He said there is “something wonderful about a man chasing a woman”.
“There’s a traditional approach to that, which is nice. I think a woman should be wooed and chased, but maybe I’m old-fashioned for thinking that.”
He added: “It’s very difficult to do that if there are certain rules in place. Because then it’s like ‘Well, I don’t want to go up and talk to her, because I’m going to be called a rapist or something’.
“Now? Now you really can’t pursue someone further than ‘No’. It’s like ‘OK, cool’. But then there’s the ‘Oh why’d you give up?’
“And it’s like ‘Well, because I didn’t want to go to jail’.”
In the interview, Cavill also said he has been in “situations with people I’ve worked with being perhaps overfamiliar with some of the actresses.”
“But, I’ve always walked up to them and said ‘Hey, are you all right? That’s creepy’.”
Even after Henry Cavill apologized to women and explained his stance the hailstorm hasn’t stopped.
These remarks were highly criticised Jameela Jamil writing on Twitter: “If you don’t want to be called a rapist, then when you approach a woman… just don’t rape her… Someone please direct Henry Cavill to the nearest bin please.”
Another added: “If you can’t tell the difference between welcome flirting and harassment/assault, you have a big problem.”
Yes, it is a big problem but Jamil was not able to identify who the problem was with. There have been cases where men have been shamed. There have been marches carried out which have compared cat-calling to raping. The people who are doing this are also not clearly defining what is ‘cat-calling’. Harmless words like ‘darling’ are held in contempt some of these very people. And in this kind of sphere, it is very easy for a person to get confused and he or she does not have to be thrown to the bin. It is clear where this form of overreaction comes from.
Henry Cavill apologized to women for comments he made around the #MeToo movement.
“Having seen the reaction to an article, in particular about my feelings on dating and the #MeToo movement, I just wanted to apologise for any confusion and misunderstanding that this may have created,” he said in a statement after his comments came under fire. “Insensitivity was absolutely not my intention.”
This is the form of environment which is being held as the epitome of perfection where Henry Cavill apologized to women; a man has to apologize for having an opinion, which does not insult anyone but just solidifies the confusion that the generations are going through at this very instant in the timeline of human history.
